How to resize an image for social media
- 1
Add your image
Drop it on the tool, choose a file, or paste it with Ctrl+V / ⌘V. It stays on your device.

Pick a network or browse all sizes, and tick the ones you need. A sensible set is already selected, and you can add any custom size.
- 3
Frame it
Crop to fill and click the part of the image that must stay in view, or fit the whole image on a blurred, coloured or transparent background.
- 4
Download
Save one size, or every selected size in a single ZIP, as JPG, PNG or WebP.
Social media image sizes for every network
These are the sizes the resizer produces, in pixels. Upload at these sizes and the networks show your image as intended, without cropping it themselves or compressing it harder than they need to.

Crop to fill or fit the whole image?
Crop to fill covers the whole frame and trims what doesn’t fit. It suits photos, where losing a little sky or floor doesn’t matter. Click the part that matters most, a face or a product, and every size keeps it as close to the centre as the crop allows. Zoom in to crop tighter.
Fit whole image keeps every pixel and fills the gaps. It suits screenshots, charts and graphics with text at the edges. A blurred copy of the image makes the gaps look intentional; a solid colour suits brand graphics; transparent works for logos saved as PNG or WebP.
Safe zones for stories, reels and banners
A 1080 × 1920 story is not all visible. The app’s profile bar covers the top, and captions, buttons and the reply field cover the bottom. Keep text, faces and logos in the middle. Turn on safe zones to see the covered areas shaded on every story, reel and TikTok size.
- Stories, Reels and TikTok: keep important content out of the top 13% and the bottom 18% of the frame.
- Profile photos: networks show them as circles, so the corners are cut off. The resizer shades them.
- YouTube channel banner: only the centre 1546 × 423 of the 2560 × 1440 image appears on every device.
JPG, PNG or WebP?
| Format | Best for | Transparency |
|---|---|---|
| JPG | Photos. The smallest files for images with gradients and detail. Use 85–90% quality. | No |
| PNG | Screenshots, graphics, text and logos. Sharp edges, larger files. | Yes |
| WebP | Both, at smaller sizes than JPG or PNG. Supported by modern networks and browsers. | Yes |
Why your upload still looks soft
Tips for sharp social media images
- Start from the largest original you have. Shrinking is free; enlarging is not.
- Use the portrait sizes (4:5) for feed posts: they take more of the screen than square or landscape.
- Keep text large. It will be read on a phone, often at a third of the size you designed it.
- Check the circle crop before you change your profile photo on several networks.
- Keep one master image per campaign and export every size from it, so they all match.
Once the image is the right size, you can write the post for every network at once in Hyvo and schedule it on the content calendar.
Frequently asked questions
What size should an Instagram post be?
1080 × 1350 pixels (4:5 portrait) takes the most space in the feed. 1080 × 1080 is the classic square, 1080 × 1440 matches the 3:4 profile grid, and 1080 × 566 is the landscape option. Stories and Reels are 1080 × 1920.
What is the best image size for X (Twitter)?
1600 × 900 pixels (16:9) for a single landscape image, which X shows uncropped. 1080 × 1350 works for a tall image, the header is 1500 × 500 and the profile photo 400 × 400.
What size is a LinkedIn post image?
1200 × 627 pixels for a landscape image or shared link, 1200 × 1200 for a square, and 1080 × 1350 for a portrait image that fills more of the mobile feed. The profile cover is 1584 × 396.
What size is a YouTube thumbnail?
1280 × 720 pixels, 16:9. The channel banner is 2560 × 1440, but only the centre 1546 × 423 is visible on every device, so keep logos and text inside it. The resizer shades everything outside that area.
What size are Instagram, TikTok and Facebook stories?
1080 × 1920 pixels, 9:16. The top and bottom of the screen are covered by the app’s profile bar, captions and buttons, so keep text and faces in the middle. Turn on safe zones in the resizer to see the covered areas.
Does resizing reduce image quality?
Shrinking an image doesn’t visibly lose quality: the resizer reduces in steps so text and edges stay sharp. Enlarging does, because detail that isn’t there can’t be invented. The resizer warns you when a size needs an image larger than yours.
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything happens in your browser with the Canvas API. The image never leaves your device, and closing the tab discards it.
